LAGUNA ART MUSEUM

In the April 24 New York Times, "Pooling Their Resources for a Place

in the Sun" by Laguna writer Andrea Adelson was published. The

well-written story is about competition in Southern California to gain

discretionary dollars in the competitive arts and leisure market. The

Laguna Art Museum is part of a joint solution, in a cooperative marketing

plan.

Laguna Art Museum's 2002 Imagination Celebration will be at the museum

from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. This year's theme for the

countywide event is World of Wonders. LAM's event is titled Drawing on

the World of the Imagination.

Local artists will work with the children in hands-on workshops

including collage, watercolor and three-dimensional art followed by a

treasure hunt and an exploration of the museum galleries.

LAM will have performances by the El Morro and Top of the World

elementary school choirs and a dance recital by the Groove Team of the

Kyne Dance Academy of Laguna Beach.

For more information, call the museum 494-8971. Laguna Art Museum is

at 307 Cliff Drive.

ART AWARDS

Arts Orange County's annual Achievement Awards on April 18 reiterated

Laguna Beach's reputation as being a world-class art community with a lot

of first-place awards. The city won the government category for

"Outstanding Art's Patron." Laguna Art Museum won "Outstanding Arts

Organization." Laguna's Laurie Brown won the visual category and Teri

Ralston won the performance category for "Outstanding Individual Artist."

Sian Poeschl, the city's arts coordinator said: "It is a great honor

and most gracious."

LAGUNA ART INSTITUTE

Alan Barkley, Art Institute Southern California president, is

thrilled,

"We had the largest graduating class to date. It's also the first

class to graduate in the new program, Feature Animation." We regret that

Chuck Jones, professor emeritus, won't be able to partake in the

graduation ceremony; he was integral."
