Community Clinic to hold annual gala

September 13, 2002

The Laguna Beach Community Clinic will honor Chief Jim Spreine and

Joyce and Marshall Linn at the annual gala fund-raiser.

Spreine and the Linns were chosen for their support of the

clinic's mission to provide medical and dental services as well as

education to those who cannot afford insurance.

"We're honoring Chief Spreine and the entire Laguna Beach Police

Department for always being there when we need help," said Ericka

Waidley, executive director of the clinic. "The department has

assisted us every since we opened our doors 30 years ago."

In addition to contributing funds, the Linns are being recognized

for their hands-on leadership.

"Joyce dropped everything to act as interim director during the

recruitment process for an executive director," Waidley said. "She

has found many grant opportunities and has always stepped in when we

needed her."

Linn served as president of the board of directors. Together with

her husband, Marshall, they have acted as the clinic's ambassadors to

the city in their endeavor to be part of the Third Street Project.

Marshall Linn's company works with government agencies on

redevelopment and financial planning.

The funds raised through the silent and live auctions as well as

from attendance will go directly to the clinic.

"We hope the community will think about all the service people who

work in our homes and in the hotels and restaurant as well as the

self-employed workers and artists who wouldn't have anywhere else to

go for medical care," Waidley said. "As the cost of health insurance

benefits rise we need to do all we can to keep our community
