Sculpture contest deadline nearing

The Laguna Beach Arts Commission will hold a sculpture competition

to add to the city's public art collection.

The art will be located at the Village Green Park at the corner of

Monterey Street and Catalina Avenue.

The subject should be inspired by nature and should be figurative.

A vertical orientation is recommended. The piece must be no larger

than 5 feet wide and deep by a maximum of 7 feet tall.

Only original artwork that may not be reproduced should be

submitted. Honorarium is $10,000. Deadline is April 29. For

Woman's Club fourth annual art show

The Woman's Club of Laguna Beach will hold its fourth annual Women

Artist's Art Auction, Show and Sale from 3 to 6 p.m. April 17 and 24.

The event showcases the talents of local women artists. Many media

will be exhibited. Each work has been individually crafted and is

original.

Both days will feature a silent auction of the donated artwork to

help provide a venue for the work of new and emerging local women

artists. Attendance is free. Refreshments will be available. The

Woman's Club is at 286 St. Ann's Drive.

Chamber Music Festival coming soon

Laguna Beach Live!, in collaboration with the Philharmonic Society

of Orange County and Laguna Chamber Music Society, will have its

third annual Laguna Beach Chamber Music Festival April 13 through

April 17.

Pianist Christopher O'Riley is the 2005 Distinguished Mentor

Musician.

The festival will offer education, performances and events, with

concerts at 8 p.m. April 15 and April 16 and at 3 p.m. April 25 at

the Artists' Theatre. Free educational events include watching

coaching sessions, open rehearsals and a discussion by O'Riley at

6:30 p.m. April 14 at Laguna Art Museum. A master class will be at 1

p.m. April 15 at Laguna Beach Artists' Theatre.

Joining Christopher O'Riley this year are cellist Abraham Feder,

violinist Bella Hristova and Yao Guang Zhia on clarinet.

Tickets for the concerts are $30, $25 and $15 for students on sale

'Playshop' given by artist Cherril Doty

Artist and creative life coach Cherril Doty will be offering an

opportunity to play and explore personal creative processes. The

class is for everyone.

The end result is in the form of the human figure, a doll. The

class is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $85 and includes lunch and

Playhouse extends popular show

As a result of continued popular demand, the Laguna Playhouse, 606

Laguna Canyon Road, will extend its run of "Late Nite Catechism"

through June 20, for the 13th time.

The two-act solo performance features "Sister" giving instruction
