Kinstler, Ramos team for doubles title

Lyndsay Kinstler of Laguna Beach, and teammate Alison Ramos of Carson, lived up to their top billing Sunday at the 104th annual Southern California Junior Tennis Sectionals at Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club in Fountain Valley.

Kinstler, who will be a senior this fall at Laguna Beach High and Ramos, who helped lead Troy to a CIF-Southern Section Division II title last November, were the No. 1 seed in the girls' 18 doubles tournament. They won the event by sweeping the unseeded team of Jill Damion (Corona del Mar High) and Sarah Fansler of Laguna Niguel, 6-1, 7-5, in the division final.

Kinstler has had much success on the court in the past year. At the CIF-SS Individual Tennis Championships at Seal Beach Tennis Center last December, Kinstler teamed with Claire Rietsch, who graduated from Laguna earlier this month, to win the doubles title.

The duo also won the Pacific Coast League doubles crown on Nov. 7, and helped lead the Breakers to the CIF-SS Division I team championship on Dec. 21.

In other sports news:

Pat O'Connell of Laguna Beach, along with fellow county residents Shane Beschen, Timmy Reyes and Chris Ward, have been invited to compete for the West Coast team at the X Games 12 surfing competition in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

The competition will be held Tuesday and Wednesday in Puerto Escondido for the second consecutive year.

O'Connell helped lead the Orange County team to its second consecutive National Surf League California Cup title in 2005. He retired from the World Championship Tour at the end of the 2004 season.

O'Connell will be making his fourth appearance at the X Games, which is an annual action sports competition featuring more than 150 of the world's top athletes competing in BMX freestyle, motocross, skateboard and surfing. A new competition, rally car racing, has been added to the schedule this year.
