Phelps recognized for strong season

Laguna Beach High senior Peter Phelps has been named to the 2006 All-Southern California Water Polo Coaches' Assn. Boys' Water Polo Team, Division II, the CIF Southern Section announced this week.

Phelps, a utility player who was the leading scorer for the Breakers, was named to the second team.

"Good for Peter," Laguna Coach Rick McKee said of Phelps' selection to the team. "He deserves it. He worked hard and is a good kid."

Twelve players were named first-team and 13 each to the second and third teams.

Senior Jeff Cole of Division II champion Santa Barbara was named the division's Player of the Year. Mark Walsh of Santa Barbara and Matt Cherrie of Ventura — which was runner-up to Santa Barbara — shared the Coach of the Year honor.
