Visitors can be print models at art spa

Artist Polina Hryn will have an opening reception for her new EmBODYment Art Spa today from 6 to 9 p.m. at 1400 S. Coast Highway, Suite 101.

Hryn's new collection of paintings, "Dances of Passion," will be featured during a reception that evening, with entertainment by singer/songwriter Ray Jordan and an aerial gymnastics performance by Sasha Fedortchev, the print model for Hryn's collection.

At the spa, visitors will have the chance to be print models. A selected part of their body is covered with paint, and they then touch their body onto the canvas. The resulting print is transformed into wall art or note cards.

Capistrano official elected to board

Mark Nielsen, a San Juan Capistrano City councilman, has been elected to the Laguna Beach-based South Coast Medical Center Foundation's board of directors.

Nielsen, elected to the San Juan Capistrano City Council in 2006, also serves as chairman of the Redevelopment Agency and Open Space Committee.

"We are delighted to have a representative from San Juan Capistrano who can help us get out the word on all the new and exciting things that are happening at the hospital," said Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Pearson Schneider.

"He brings a solid business background as well as a huge reservoir of relationships to our organization as the foundation works to reconnect with the communities it serves and raises funds to move the hospital forward."

Nielsen is a 24-year veteran of the software and wireless industries.

Currently, he's the managing director of Capistrano Ventures. He is also a Tech Coast Angel, a member of Ventana Capital's executive advisory board, and a founding partner of Venture Farm where he sits on the Deal Review Committee.

A Chicago native, Nielsen received a bachelor's degree in communications studies and philosophy from Northwestern University.

He lives in San Juan Capistrano with his wife and two children.

South Coast Medical Center serves South County communities of Laguna Beach, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo.

Chamber plans gourmet mixer

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce will hold its August Mixer from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at รก la carte gourmet catering, 1915 S. Coast Highway.
