Tabu Grill earns highest Zagat rating in SoCal

In its fourth year in business, Tabu Grill has earned a 2009 Zagat Guide food rating of 29, the highest score given to any restaurant in Southern California. This superior rating positions Tabu Grill in a class that includes only a select handful of the finest restaurants in the world.

Zagat’s ratings are based on a 30-point scale, made up of scores for defined areas including food, décor, service and cost. The guide includes reviews of more than 30,000 restaurants, nightspots, hotels and attractions worldwide.

The 2009 Zagat Guide scored Tabu Grill with a higher food rating than any other restaurant in Las Vegas, New York, Paris or Rome. It currently is the only restaurant south of Napa Valley to earn this food rating distinction in California. The food score of 29 is described in Zagat as “extraordinaire to perfection.”

“We are very proud to receive this incredible rating from such a prestigious guide because its survey is based on actual feedback from customers,” said Nancy Wilhelm, Tabu Grill’s managing owner. “In creating a menu that is equally delectable and inventive, our chef has elevated Tabu Grill to be considered among some of the best restaurants in the world.”

The restaurant is guided by Chef Kevin Jerrold-Jones, who incorporates flavors that includes California wine country, Pacific Rim and Asian influences. An open, exhibition-style kitchen allows customers to view their dinners being individually prepared. In addition to managing owner Wilhelm, Tabu Grill is owned by Chuck and Christine Bixler and Keith and Julie Gallo.

Grant applicants have Monday deadline

The Laguna Board of Realtors and Affiliates Charitable Assistance Fund will accept written applications by Monday from groups interested in receiving donations from its 2009 fundraising events. The group sponsors three big fundraising events: Only In Laguna Fashion Show in March; A Taste For Charity and Silent Art Auction in May; and the Pet Parade and Chili Cook-off in September.

Proceeds are donated to local nonprofits that generally are smaller in size, serve local needs and do not already have large funding sources.

Scholarships are also awarded to qualifying Laguna Beach High School students.

Thousands of dollars are raised and many nonprofits have benefited over the years. Groups that would like to apply for funds this coming year should contact Board Executive Vice President Stephanie Lennon at (949) 497-2474 or by e-mail at Stephanie@lbrealtors.com.

Groups must be registered 501c3 nonprofits and a questionnaire will be supplied. Prior recipients are allowed to reapply. Letters will be sent to all applicants by January notifying them of selection committee’s decisions.

November Chamber mixer is at French 75

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce will hold its November from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at French 75, 1464 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach.
