‘Snouthenge’ maquette debuts

“Snouthenge” — a maquette of the rumored predecessor to Stonehenge, designed by Southern California artist John L. Steenhoven, will be displayed with a selection of sculptural works from Steenhoven’s 2009 “Enchantment Series” at the Cove Gallery throughout April. An opening reception will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. April 4.

Commenting on the inspiration for Snouthenge, Steenhoven noted a recent theory speculating that the prehistoric monument, Stonehenge, erected in 3000 B.C. in the English county of Wiltshire, was in fact a remnant of Snouthenge. Steenhoven says he has wondered why the Snouts destroyed this monument to themselves and replaced it with the rather uninspired Stonehenge.
