“I just loved helping out at the Daisy troops’ meetings,” Eidt said.
The girls distributed fliers and delivered boxes to Laguna Beach stores as part of their service project, and eventually collected more than 500 pairs of prescription glasses for the Lions in Sight Program, which donates glasses to the needy.
“I like the feeling of knowing that I did something challenging, that I can be proud of. Earning the award was truly hard work but lots of fun,” Kono said.
El Morro registration deadline nears
Time is running out for parents who wish to enroll their children in El Morro Elementary School for the 2009-10 school year.
Registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22 at the school.
Children must be 5 years old before Dec. 2 to register for kindergarten.
A birth certificate, immunization records, and current gas or electric bill or lease/rental agreement must also be presented.
The school office will close June 26 and not reopen until Aug. 20.

Summer musical theater workshop
Gallimaufry Performing Arts will offer a summer workshop where students will have the opportunity to learn acting, singing and dance technique, as well as auditioning, improvisation and more.
The four-week, 60-hour course will run from June 22 through July 17.
The course will be taught by musical theater professionals Steve Josephson, Amy Hitchcock and Karen McBride in the Thurston Middle School music room.
Students in fourth- through 12th-grades will also be cast in the production of “Bugsy Malone,” which will run July 25 and 26, and Aug. 1 and 2.
Josephson, Gallimaufry’s artistic director, has taught and directed theater for more than 20 years.
He is a graduate of USC’s BFA Drama Conservatory program and was a professional dancer for various dance companies.
He has taught and directed at USC and is currently a teacher of musical theater at the Orange County High School of the Arts.
As a stage actor and dancer, he has appeared in hundreds of shows worldwide.
He has also coached and directed many Broadway, television and film actors.
Hitchcock, a drama teacher at Top of the World and El Morro Elementary Schools, has starred in many Gallimaufry Performing Arts shows and concerts, as well as throughout the Southland.
She was also the musical director of last summer’s “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”
McBride has had a successful career as a professional singer, actress, director, musical director and teacher throughout the world.
She has musically directed “Carousel” and “The Jungle Book” with Gallimaufry.
