Art-A-Fair seeking new artists

Art-A-Fair Festival is getting ready for its summer show and seeking new artists for its 44th annual season, to run nine weeks, from June 25 to Aug. 29.

For the first time, Art-A-Fair is offering three entry options: in-person or mail-in, as in previous years, and also via Web-based ZAPPTM.

ZAPP is a universal application system that enables artists to upload high-resolution images of their work for review by the same Art-A-Fair jurors that consider the dimensional entries brought in on jury day.

Jury day for Art-A-Fair is 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 14. Artists who wish to be considered are invited to bring artwork to the Laguna Beach Boys & Girls Club, 1085 Laguna Canyon Road.

All media are available for jurying, and artists may jury with more than one.

Three original works of art are required in each medium entered; two-dimensional pieces must be framed, wired and ready to hang.

Artists who have hand-delivered their work on jury day receive their scores and notification of acceptance or declination at pick-up between 4 and 5 p.m. that same day.

The deadline for receipt of mail-in submissions is Jan. 20.

Every art form is represented at the show, including oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, drawings, photography, digital art, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, glass and wood.

Art-A-Fair also features live entertainment, fine dining, demonstrations and workshops.

Attendance at the show is generally about 60,000.

Forms and information about the specifics of submitting work, including through the ZAPP process, artist prospectus and application checklist can be found at www.art-a-fair.com.

OsCene artists selected

OsCene 2010 Curator Grace Kook-Anderson has selected the 49 visual artists who will be included in “The OsCene: Contemporary Art and Culture in OC” exhibition, to run Feb. 21 to May 16 at Laguna Art Museum.

Highlighting local Orange County artists, OsCene 2010 will feature painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, multimedia installations, video, architecture, performance and design. This year, OsCene is extending to include artists based in Long Beach and San Pedro.

“Despite the geographical framework that OsCene 2010 takes on, it’s exciting to see the range of artists in this exhibition with diverse backgrounds and practices,” Kook-Anderson said. “There will definitely be some threads of dialogue between these different artists and their works.”
