Festival of Arts

Art of Cooking

Watermarc's chef Kiel Anderson will demonstrate his recipes, which helped place the restaurant on Orange Coast Magazine's "Top Ten" list in 2010, from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the festival's weekly Art of Cooking event.

Afterward, he'll let patrons sample his dishes before they head home to try their own hand at his recipes.

An Orange County native, Anderson has worked in the food industry since he was fifteen. While in culinary school at the Art Institute of Los Angeles, Orange County, he worked at Marbella Country Club, Tail of the Whale and Opah Restaurant.

He was later promoted to Chef de Cuisine, where he currently works with Marc Cohen, the chef and owner of Watermarc.

Youth Arts Education

The theme of Wednesday's Youth Arts Education day is "Bag Day," where festival artists will teach kids to use paper, plastic, glue, paints, paper, stamps, string, wire and found objects to create masks and 3-D sculptures.

Meanwhile parents will have free time to view the artwork on display throughout the festival grounds.

Open to kids ages 5 to 12. Cost is $10. Reservations are required, so call (949) 464-4233 or e-mail

Coffee and Conversations

Get inside the minds of mixed media artists at Thursday's "Coffee and Conversations," when artist Hedy Buzan will lead a discussion from 10 to 11 a.m. with Mia Moore, Betty Haight, John Warren, Gerard Basil Stripling and Carolyn Machado called "Collage, Assemblage and the Found Object."

The artists will discuss an overview of the historical sources of mixed media, which influenced many of the modern art movements and how this impacts the artists' own work.

The discussion will touch on the various processes of Fine Art Printmaking and the issues facing printmakers in our highly digital world.

Participation is free with festival admission.
