The Laguna Beach High girls' volleyball team, ranked No. 1 at the start of the week in the first CIF Division 1-A poll of the regular season, begins play today at the Dave Mohs Tournament, hosted by Edison High.
The tournament, one of the top girls' volleyball events, continues Saturday and concludes with championship-round play Monday at Edison.
Sixty-four squads, with teams playing in either Division 1 or Division 2, are entered in the 31st annual event. Sites include Edison's Dave Mohs Gym and the gymnasiums at Huntington Beach, Marina, Fountain Valley, Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar, as well as possibly Estancia and Costa Mesa, Edison Coach Trent Jackson said.
Laguna will compete in Division 1 and is in the same pool as El Dorado, Santa Margarita and Marina. The Breakers open the tournament at 4:30 p.m. today against Marina at the Marina gym. They'll face Santa Margarita at 6:30 p.m. today and go up against El Dorado at 9 a.m. Saturday. Both games also will be at the Marina gym.
