Schools celebrate Red Ribbon Week
El Morro and Top of the World Elementary Schools recently participated in the national Red Ribbon Week campaign, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the U.S.
Elementary school activities throughout the week educate students about drug prevention, making smart choices about their lives and provide an opportunity to make a personal commitment to live a healthy and drug free life.
El Morro Principal, Chris Duddy, said one of the main activities was a Dollars and Cents for Prevention fundraiser.
"This fundraiser provides a scholarship for a graduating LBHS senior," he said.
Principal cook-off: round 2
Thurston Middle School Principal Joanne Culverhouse will face off against Laguna Beach High Principal Don Austin in the second annual SchoolPower Chef Challenge at 6 p.m. Monday at the Lumberyard Restaurant in Laguna Beach.
Working with Lumberyard chef Armando Ortega, each principal has designed a menu including an appetizer, entrée and dessert to show off their culinary talent. Diners will enjoy both chefs' menus then will vote on each element of the meal to determine who will reign as this year's king or queen of the kitchen.
Good friends and a fun rivalry will make for an unforgettable evening and, thanks to Lumberyard owners, Cary & Suzanne Redfearn's generosity, will help SchoolPower reach its goals for Laguna Beach kids.
Tickets are $80 per person and can be purchased at (949) 494-6811 or http://www.lbschoolpower.org. Seating is limited.
