League sponsors homeless meeting
The League of Women Voters will hold a town meeting to consider the city's response to the needs of homeless people in the community at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann's Drive, Laguna Beach.
When the decision was made to create the Alternative Sleeping Location, it was given a three-year tenure. Today marks one year since the city opened the ASL. Only two years remain for a permanent solution. The League believes there is a need to review what has been happening, and to look at what the future holds for those in our town who are chronically in need and those who are in transition.
A panel of representatives from the city, Friendship Shelter, Laguna Beach Resource Center and Mercy House have been invited to participate. For more information, contact Jean Raun at (949) 494-2247 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Grieving during the holidays

Church members and those from the community are welcome. For more information, call Jackie Pearson at (949) 494-7555.
Community Thanksgiving at Congregational Church
Laguna Beach's traditional non-denominational Community Thanksgiving Feast will be at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann's Drive, Laguna Beach.
The Community Thanksgiving began as an effort to serve the needy but grew to an inclusive celebration with friends and neighbors bringing their favorite dish to share. Volunteers prepare bag lunches that are distributed to the needy to take with them for a later day meal. Attendees are encouraged to share a dessert or side dish and, this year, to contribute to an estimated 600 to 700 meals that will be served.
A special appeal is being made this year for volunteers willing to stay after the meal is finished to clear the tables and to return the dining area to its pre-feast condition. The feast begins at noon, with setup at 11 a.m. To volunteer or sign up to provide a turkey, contact Taylor Mathieson at Friendship Shelter, (949) 494-6928.
