Thurston Honor Roll students recognized

Thurston Middle School held a Gold Card and Honor Roll Breakfast to celebrate the academic accomplishments of students who achieved an overall grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during the spring semester. Qualifying students received breakfast and a Gold Card identifying them as honor students, entitling them to discounts at vendors throughout Laguna.

The event was hosted by Principal Joanne Culverhouse, courtesy of Thurston's PTA, with counselors Jennifer DeMark and Kay Ostensen presenting students who earned 4.0 GPAs with special medals of recognition that most wore proudly all day.

Nutty Nutcracker show

No Square Theatre will present "The Nutty Nutcracker" at 1 p.m. Sunday at Legion Hall, 384 Legion St., Laguna Beach. This performance features the youngest cast ever assembled, according to Linda Haylett, instructor.

Dancers, ages 2 to 15 will delight the whole family with tap dancing, kung fu fighting mice and candy colored snow fights.

Library in the holiday spirit

The Laguna Beach Library, 363 Glenneyre St., will host a free holiday party from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday featuring music by Dean Ratzman, holiday crafts and refreshments.

District goes on holiday

The Laguna Beach Unified School District and business office will close at 3 p.m. Dec. 22 and re-open at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 3. Schools will close for the holidays Dec. 17 and students will return to classes on Jan. 3.
