Club eyes public gardens
The Laguna Beach Garden Club will present "Eye Candy from Public Gardens on the West Coast" and a silent auction at its 9:30 a.m. Feb. 11 meeting at Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann's Drive, Laguna Beach.
Board member Patricia Weier will present a slideshow of photos from various gardens, and attendees will have the opportunity to bid for Valentine Planted Containers created by club members. City seeks 'green' nominees
The city of Laguna Beach is accepting nominations for its 2011 Environmental Recognition Award Program, to recognize environmental stewardship and sustainability efforts by individuals and organizations in and around Laguna Beach.
The Environmental Committee selects the award recipients by majority vote and sends the recommendations to the City Council, which presents the awards.
Any Laguna Beach resident, business, community organization or school may be nominated. A nominee may not be affiliated professionally with, or a family member of, a current Environmental Committee member. Nominations may not be submitted by the nominee.
Official nomination forms may be obtained from the city's website at http://www.lagunabeachcity.net/living/environment.asp or by calling (949) 497-0390. The forms must be delivered by 5 p.m. March 11 to the City Clerk's office, 505 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach, CA 92651.
Assistance Fund applications available
The city of Laguna Beach is now accepting applications for the Community Assistance Grant Program for fiscal year 2011-12. The program's objective is to assist local nonprofit/public organizations in funding new projects and/or expanding services within this community. Grant recipients in the past have included social service, cultural, sports, senior and youth organizations.
Grant applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Community Services Department, 515 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach, by mail or in person. Applications may be downloaded from the city's website at http://www.lagunabeachcity.net, or may be obtained via e-mail by calling (949) 497-3311 ext. 426.
Frank to receive Legacy Award
Laguna Beach Seniors has named Ken Frank as their 2011 Legacy Award recipient. Frank served Laguna Beach as city manager for more than 31 years. The seniors will present the award March 25 at the fifth annual Legacy Ball, to be held at The Resort at Pelican Hill.
Councilmember Kelly Boyd and his wife, Michelle Boyd, serve as the honorary co-chairs of the ball.
