Prom dresses sought for teens
Girls, Inc., Women Helping Women, Orange Coast College and the Orangewood Children's Foundation are collecting gently used prom and party dresses for their upcoming "Belle of the Ball" event for foster and at-risk teen girls in Orange County. They are hoping to collect more than 300 dresses so that each girl has her choice of size, style and color. Contemporary and plus-size dresses, as well as accessories like dress shoes, jewelry and evening bags are also needed by March 5. Visit http://www.orangewoodfoundation.org/belle.
Youth theater show on eating disorders
To honor National Eating Disorder Awareness Week and help educate Laguna's youth about these potentially fatal disorders, the Laguna Playhouse Theatre for a New Generation will perform "Eat (It's Not About Food)" from Thursday through Feb. 12 at the Laguna Beach Woman's Club, 286 St. Ann's Drive.
Written by Linda Daugherty and directed by Kelly Herman, the production explores the causes and warning signs of eating disorders, and investigates the societal influences that lead young people to struggle with the disease, according to a Laguna Playhouse press statement. The show is suitable for teens, parents and educators.
