Thurston hosts Noon Sports
Two weeks a month, Thurston Middle School students get to participate in Noon Sports, a program devised by Thurston physical education teacher Michael Bair.
The idea is for students to learn that fitness and organized sports can be fun. There's a wide variety of choices, from ping pong and flag football to basketball and dodgeball.
The school's leadership class has been preparing for the monthly event with posters and school announcements. Bair said students come up to him frequently, enthusiastic about the program.
"Students learn good sportsmanship, make new friendships and build lifelong fitness skills," Principal Joanne Culverhouse said in a statement.
Another plus? The winning student team gets to take on the teachers.
