El Morro teaches sportsmanship
A new program in El Morro Elementary School's physical education department teaches kids the value of good sportsmanship.
Created by P.E. staff Eric LaPierre, Tami Burns and Sara Rawlins, P.E. classes get a gold star when they demonstrate good sportsmanship during their period. The class that gets four stars will be rewarded the following class with a special activity.
"Our physical education program does a fantastic job of instilling character in our students and making P.E. fun," Principal Chris Duddy said in a statement. "By learning sportsmanship in physical education, the students carry this character trait over to the playground, which helps create the positive environment we enjoy here at El Morro."
TOW recognized with history award
On June 6, eight Top of the World Elementary School fifth-graders were recognized for excellence in American history by the Patience Wright Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The following students were awarded with medals: Thomas Garcia and Kyla Whitlock, of Sarah Wolsey's class; Austin Hanlin and Kelly Keller, of Susan Dick's class; Chantal Carter and Jack Raffo, of Teryl Campbell's class; and Garrett Tyler and Clay Zarinelli, of Rosie Haynes' class.
Principal Ron LaMotte held an assembly for students and introduced Daughters of the American Revolution representative Gloria Padach.
"Each of us also makes history every day of our lives," Padach told the students and staff present, according to a statement. "Perhaps some of you will end up in the history books of the future."
