FRIDAY: Sawdust and Art-A-Fair art festivals open 10 a.m. Friday. Both shows close at 10 p.m. Art-A-Fair,, is a at 777 Laguna Canyon Road; Sawdust,, is at 935 Laguna Canyon Road.

SUNDAY: Join Neighborhood Congregational Church for a free noon showing of "Fish out of Water," a documentary about the Bible and homosexuality. The screening follows the church's five-year anniversary celebration of being an official, gay-friendly "Open and Affirming Church" in The United Church of Christ during the 10 a.m. service. Needle Art Guild Meets

Join the Susi Q Needle Art Guild at its free monthly meeting on the last Friday of the month from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St. Members help create various items for local organizations including Mission Hospital's Oncology Unit and the Friendship Shelter. California Native Plant Hike

Learn to identify native plants from 9 a.m. to noon with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalist Nadine Nordstrom (author of the South Coast Wilderness Plant Identification Guide) on this strenuous, steep and rocky, fast-paced, 4.8-mile loop with a 400 foot elevation gain. Event fee is $2 donation per person; parking is $3 per vehicle. Limited to those 12 and older. Meet at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Nix Nature Center, 18751 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.
