Winners of Children's Palette program announced

Fourteen winning entries were chosen out of a field of 181. The kids, ages 4 to 16, were honored at City Council meeting.

Outgoing Mayor Toni Iseman presented certificates to budding artists Tuesday night, the winners of the 2011 Children's Palette Contest.

Fourteen winners were selected from 181 entries. The 2011 winning junior palettes and all previous winners since the program began in 2004 will be exhibited at City Hall through Dec. 30. The rest of the 2011 entries are on display at the Laguna Beach Public Library, courtesy of Laguna Outreach Community Arts, commonly known as LOCA.

"I've seen the palettes, and they are amazing," Iseman said.

Winners were announced by Lisa Mansour, vice-chairman of the Laguna Beach Arts Commission. They ranged in age from 4 to 16.

Here are the names of the winners, their ages and palette titles:

•Maryellie Jacquez, 16, "Beach Christmas"

•Nathan Hunt, 13, "Downhill Santa"

•Lucas Toro, 12, "Special Delivery"

•Katie Glavinovich, 12, "Santa Claus is coming…to Laguna Beach"

•Emily Baker, 11, "Holly"

•Joey Risi, 9, "Self Portrait of a Chocolate Moose," inspired by memories of wildlife when he lived in Wyoming

•Elsa Dahle, 9, "Santa's Helpers"

•Annabelle Kavanagh, 8, "Christmas at the Beach"

•Luca De Mari, 8, "All I Want for Christmas Are My Two Front Teeth" a painting of a crocodile with missing teeth, inspired by a trip to the zoo

•Kathryn Callahan, 8, "The Snowman in Laguna"

•Clara Becker, 8, whose dog Roxie dreams of a "Dog Bone Christmas"

•Audrey Abrahams, 7, "Christmas Time"

•Meghan Reardon, 5, "A Christmas at the Beach"

•Katie Baker, 4, "Christmas Hallow"

Glavinovich and Emily Baker are three-time winners.

The Children's Palette program is funded by the lodging establishments of Laguna Beach and the city.
