Alexander John Wentzel, 84, died Jan. 5. He helped found RUFF (Rescuing Unwanted Furry Friends and was on the founding board of directors of the AIDS Services Foundation.

Charlton "Charlie" Phillips Boyd, 91, a former Laguna Beach mayor and businessman, died Feb. 3.

Leah Leary, 72, a longtime Laguna Beach businesswoman and owner of the Laguna Gander store, died from complications following back surgery March 2.

Susan Trager, 63, the first woman to serve on the Laguna Beach County Water District board of directors, died of cancer March 22.

Arno Chauvel, 60, vice chairman of the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, died after a battle with bone cancer on April 19.

Andrew Brislen, 40, of San Clemente died after diving off Laguna's Picnic Beach on May 27.

Jonas Gregory Bevacqua, 33, co-founder of the Irvine-based streetwear brand Lifted Research Group, died due to natural causes in his Laguna Beach home May 30.

Gregg Gaynor, 43, died June 21. He loved the water and could always be found surfing, diving and paddling.

Joy Trent, 70, the longtime Pageant of the Masters makeup director, died of lung cancer Sept. 16.

Constance Morthland, 100, the "Grand Dame of Moss Point," died Sept. 18. She was known for her heavy involvement with the Laguna Playhouse. Her life was chronicled in "The First One Hundred Years of Constance Gordon Grant Morthland," written by her daughter, Joan Hutchins.

Victoria Buzzo, 54, was a hair stylist and one of eight killed in a mass shooting at the Salon Meritage in Seal Beach on Oct. 12.

Randy Fannin, 63, a part-time resident of Laguna Beach, was also killed in the Salon Meritage shooting Oct. 12. Fannin was the salon's owner.

Mark Leones, 28, a Costa Mesa man, was killed after his bicycle hit the curb and he was ejected on a steep curve on Park Avenue on Oct. 16.

Jean Bernstein, 88, one of the founders of the peace vigil at Main Beach, died of congestive heart failure Oct. 22.

Larry Allison, 73, Laguna resident and editorial page editor for the Long Beach Press-Telegram, died from pneumonia Oct. 30.
