City seeks bids for streets project

The city of Aliso Viejo is now accepting bids for a street rehabilitation project.

The annual Slurry Seal and Rehabilitation project, which includes asphalt patching, removal and replacement of traffic striping, raised pavement markers and more, is estimated to cost $625,000.

Bids are due by 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at the city clerk's office, 12 Journey, Suite 100.

Potential bidders can get a copy of the contract documents for $25 from the Public Works Department or have them mailed for $15.

District schools giving out kindergarten info

Elementary schools in the Capistrano Unified School District are welcoming families of first-time students to their campuses throughout the month of February.

All 36 district schools will hold meetings to provide families with information about kindergarten programs and give out registration packets.

Families must bring proof of residence to get their registration material. To finish the registration process, the child's birth certificate and immunization records will be needed.

Children must turn 5 on or before Nov. 1 to be able to start kindergarten in the fall.

Registration begins for International Festival

Registration for exhibitors at Soka University's 11th annual International Festival is now open.

Spaces are available for nonprofits or businesses to participate in the event May 5.

The cost to exhibit is $35 for nonprofits and $125 for crafters or businesses, according to a news release from the university. Exhibitors can also rent a canopy for $35 or get electricity in their area for $35.

The festival saw 6,200 attendees last year, with 900 performers and more than 250 exhibitors, the release said. Admission is free.
