LCAD student show starts next week

The Laguna College of Art & Design's annual Juried Student Exhibition will open Monday and run through April 28.

According to a news release, the exhibition can be seen from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and will showcase art work created by students in LCAD's five fields of study: drawing and painting, illustration, graphic design, animation and game art.

Admission and parking are free.

An artists' reception for this exhibit will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, during First Thursdays Art Walk in Laguna Beach, the release said.

Ed Gomez coming to LAM

Meanwhile, the Laguna Art Museum will host a conversation with artist Ed Gomez at 7 p.m. Thursday during Art Walk.

Gomez, a director and co-president of the nonprofit MexiCali Biennial, which he co-founded in 2006, also heads the Gallery of Contemporary Art, a mobile art space in a suitcase, according to a news release from LAM. Gomez will give a short presentation and then take questions from the audience.

Irvine Museum leader to headline programs

Jean Stern, executive director of The Irvine Museum, will appear at two events in Newport Beach in April and May presented by the Pacific Art Foundation and Laguna Plein Air Painters Assn.

From 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Stern, an art historian and authority on California impressionists, will give a presentation at the Pacific Club, 4110 MacArthur Blvd., on contemporary landscape painting during a PAF Forum evening, scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m., according to a news release. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Tickets to the PAF Forum cost $45.

And from 6 to 9 p.m. May 19, an exhibition and sale of works by members of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Assn., which Stern will jury, will take place during a Meet the Artists event at the Pacific Club. The evening will feature a buffet supper and wine. Tickets to this event cost $100.
