Auction to benefit group home

An art auction to raise money for Glennwood House of Laguna Beach will be from 2 to 5 p.m. April 28 at the site of the future group home in South Laguna, 2130 S. Coast Hwy.

The auction, titled "A Home of Their Own," will see 100% of the proceeds going to Glennwood House, a future home that will accommodate 50 young adults with developmental disabilities, according to a news release. The facility is scheduled to open at the end of 2012.

Works of art that will be auctioned off include pieces donated by the Festival of Arts and local artists. Two of the paintings that will go on the auction block are "Time for Lemoncello" by Tom Swimm and "Our Old Lake" by Elizabeth McGhee.

Other featured artists are: Susie Rubenstein, Mark Hendrickson, Susan Unoura, Sue Ingram, Lana Perry, Hedy Buzan-Williamson, Carla Meberg, Bernie Jones, Liz Rosetta, Deborah Kaplan-Evans, Annette Reed, Walter Askin, Poli Marichal, Barbara White, Enrica Marshall, Mada Leach, Eve Chartrand, Vinita Voogd, Anne England, Mia Moore and Mariko Ishii.


Those who cannot attend the auction but would like to send in a donation can write a check to the order of "Glennwood Housing Foundation" and mail it to 101 Pacifica #255, Irvine, CA 92618.


Collector's Choice to raise funds for LCAD

The 23rd annual Collector's Choice, a fine arts event and live auction to raise money in support of Laguna College of Art & Design scholarships, is scheduled for 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 9 at the LCAD campus, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

This year's auction is being dubbed as "A Golden Anniversary Celebration" in honor of the college's 50th anniversary. Artwork to be auctioned off will include pieces donated by Laguna Beach area and regional artists, according to a news release.

LBFS to screen Japanese film

The Laguna Beach Film Society will show "Hospitalite," which was a winner at the Tokyo International Film Festival, at 7 p.m. April 19, at South Coast Cinema, 162 S. Coast Hwy.

Tickets at the door cost $15 for general admission and $10 for students with ID. A food and wine event at Laguna Art Museum at 6 p.m. will precede the film showing. The cost for admission to the LAM event, at 307 Cliff Drive, is $20. LBFS members get in for free.
