The high school's PTA's executive board has launched several innovations this year that impressed the selection committee, including the parent education forums at each monthly meeting, the hands-on manner the superintendent, school board members and the principal took with parents to discuss school matters as well as the improved communications to strengthen the home-school connection, partnership and outreach efforts and increased parent engagement, the release said.

Textbooks on display at district

The Laguna Beach School District's administrative office has several high school textbooks on display for the public to review from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Monday at 550 Blumont St.

Books on display are "Discovering French Today!," "Literature and Language Arts — Warriner's Handbook, Third Course," "Economics — Principles and Practices," "Precalculus 4 e," "Trigonometry, Tenth Edition," and "Calculus of a Single Variable, Ninth Edition."

Lumberyard given Hall of Fame Award.

Lumberyard restaurant was awarded SchoolPower's Hall of Fame Award, according to a news release.

The restaurant, at 384 Forest Ave., has made exemplary contributions and shown ongoing support of the education foundation and Laguna Beach schools, the release said.

Owners Cary and Suzanne Redfearn have opened their restaurant several times to raise funds for many of the high school's booster clubs, Laguna Beach Little League, the Community Clinic, Ebell Club and the Laguna Playhouse as well as hosting the annual Lumberyard Chef Challenge.
