Public art to be dedicated next week

The city of Laguna Beach will dedicate the Art in Public Places installations by Scott and Naomi Schoenherr in Heisler Park at 5 p.m. Sept. 21 at the park, according to the city manager's office.

The artwork, comprised of a sculpture, seating and sidewalk installation, were created out of ceramics, stainless steel and rock, and were inspired by the poem, "Giggle Crack," written by Shelley Cooper.

Following the dedication, Sunset Serenades will be being at 5:30 p.m. with a performance by jazz vocalist Lisa Nemzo.

LOCA event being held next month

The Laguna Outreach Community Arts will host its annual meeting and 20th anniversary event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at The Art Center, 1492 S. Coast Hwy.

Featured speaker will be Ray Redfern of Redfern Gallery, according to a news release. American paintings from the 1890s to 1940s and jewelry will be on display. There also will be live music and prize drawings.

General admission is $20; free to members.

Separately, LOCA is offering an art class around sea lions, Art and Sea Lions: Paint a Sea Lion on Silk from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center,

There will be a docent tour that will include a viewing of the sea lions and silk painting with Reem Khalil, according to a news release. Adults are $20; $15 for children 6 and older with an adult.

Laguna Playhouse raffling off Smart Car

The Laguna Playhouse, in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel, will be raffling off a Smart Car as a fundraiser to support the 91-year old non-profit, according to a press release.

Raffle tickets are available until Nov. 16, at which time a winner will be drawn at the Playhouse's annual gala, "California Dreamin." Ticket holders need not be present at the event to win.

"Laguna Beach is known as a 'green' community, so we try to reinforce the importance of 'going green' whenever we can," said Playhouse Executive Director Karen Wood in statement.

Tickets for the smart car are $100 and may be purchased at http://www.lagunaplayhouse.com.
