In the Arts: Laguna Dance Festival gets another donation

July 03, 2013

The Laguna Dance Festival has received a $1,000 grant from the Festival of Arts Foundation for its educational programs, a spokeswoman announced in a news release last week.

"The grant enables Laguna Dance Festival to continue its mission of facilitating education, entertainment and outreach programs by bringing the best of dance education and performances to Laguna Beach," the release read.

The contribution marked the second recent major gift to the dance festival: In June, the group received a $7,000 grant from the Laguna Beach City Council.

Among the group's educational programs are free performances during First Thursdays Art Walk, master classes for advanced dancers, lectures and a film series, according to the release.

The Festival of Arts will kick off this year's Art Talks series July 11 with a seminar on art and music, titled "Noteworthy," with painter-musician Scott Moore and festival exhibitors Tom Swimm, Breck Rothage and Marlo Bartels.

The talk, which the festival announced in a news release Tuesday, is the first in a series that will continue every Thursday through Aug. 29. The event is free with regular festival admission and lasts from noon to 1 p.m.

Future installments in the series will touch on plein air painting, sculpture, photography, children's art and more.
