ALISO VIEJO ? The Laguna Beach Little League 10/11 All-Star team is nothing if not resilient. So, after a top of the sixth inning that seemed to go on forever, the team was still going to go down swinging. Michael Shurtleff and Dane Olson scored in the bottom of the sixth inning, but these were just footnotes in a 28-3 Aliso Viejo victory in the second round of the District 55 All-Star Tournament winner?s bracket Wednesday night at Woodfield Park. Laguna Beach is dropped to the consolation bracket, where it will have an elimination game Monday at 6 p.m., also at Woodfield Park.

A 7-mile stretch of Aliso Creek is under study by the Army Corps of Engineers and the County of Orange for ways to improve wildlife habitat and water quality. The study is separate from the SUPER (Stabilization, Utility Protection and Environmental Restoration) Project, a $45 million federal effort to tame the Aliso watercourse, which is subject to flooding and erosion. The study is a spinoff of an overall Orange County Watershed study of 2002 — which preceded the SUPER Project — and will evaluate the creek from Pacific Park in Aliso Viejo to the ocean, including 1,000 feet of the Wood Canyon tributary to Aliso Creek, said John Vivante, lead planner with the Corps for the watershed project.

(Re "Mayor signs on for marriage equality," March 23): I was the one who asked Mayor Jane Egly to sign the pledge, which I did March 17. I emailed Egly asking for her support, and she signed the pledge March 19. I've been trying to get Mayor Donald Garcia of Aliso Viejo (where I live — I work in Laguna Beach) to sign, but at every turn he keeps dodging my questions. Hopefully other mayors in Orange County will follow. Alex Gill-Gerards Aliso Viejo * Not concerned gay reputation is fading (Re "Hansen: Gay Laguna fades away," March 23)
