Family and friends of George Woods gathered Friday at the Aliso Creek Inn to share memories of the actor and longtime Patriots Day Parade commentator, who died July 3. He was 75. "He was a wonderful man, full of personality and always a pleasure to have around," said Laguna Playhouse Artistic Director Andrew Barnicle. "He was a great raconteur." Mr. Woods starred in four plays at the Playhouse after Barnicle joined the creative staff in 1991, and at least six others before that.

Yet that’s what Gallimaufry Performing Arts has in store Saturday when not only the two art forms but two venues will be in the spotlight. “Two Journeys — One Mission” will be offered, beginning at 6 p.m. in San Juan Capistrano and ending at 10:30 p.m. in Laguna Beach. Dancers from the Gallimaufry & Greene Dance Company will combine their talents with those of a pair of local Laguna artists.

The two-hour workshop, conceived from scratch by the former Joffrey Ballet star, blended movement and painting. It was held in the middle of the weeklong festival, which concludes Sunday. About 30 grade school-age kids, mostly girls, attended Dancing Hands. “They were very creative and energetic,” Gates said.
