Jessica Barkley Atelier is hosting an invitation-only Summer 2013 and Bridal Fashion show on Wednesday. Barkley, who designs "exclusive one-of-a-kind, high-end, formal evening wear for a highly discerning clientele," is known for her daytime wear that transitions easily to evening events. She's now introduced a small line of custom-made bridal gowns starting at $2,500, according to a news release. She first launched her fashion line in late 2009 and early 2010 and has gained traction with Orange County's more upscale and sophisticated women.

Officers elected, committees assigned The commission elected Nancy Beverage as chair for a second consecutive term, Pat Kollenda as vice chair and Mary Ferguson as treasurer. Brooklyn artist to select city hall art Ferguson said that the committee in charge of the upcoming juried art show at Laguna Beach City Hall has selected artist Nicholas Raynolds of Brooklyn as the exhibition's adjudicator.

Blue Lagoon condominiums will still have an ocean view — even after a new, 7,700-square-foot home is built on property that is part of the Montage Resort & Spa. Mayor Pro Tem Cheryl Kinsman brokered a deal that Blue Lagoon condominium dwellers and a Montage property owner accepted for a home at 1 Atelier Lane. The City Council voted 3-2 to reduce the height of the proposed home by one foot and to limit the height of the landscaping along the wall that separates the two properties.

WHAT: Treasure Island WHAT'S BEHIND IT: Monthly progress reports keep the City Council apprised of glitches in the Treasure Island project, actions by other agencies that pertain to the project, changes requested by the developer in approved plans and administrative approvals of proposals. WHAT NOW: The City Council approved some changes in street names in the Montage Resort and Spa development and got a short history lesson on the arts and crafts movement.

A proposed Montage Estate home with a basement bigger than many Laguna Beach homes failed to make the grade with the City Council. The proposed home ? which includes a 2,600-square-foot basement to house mechanicals and provide storage ? was returned at the July 18 council meeting to the Design Review Board, which had already denied it. "A 2,600-square-foot area could probably run a hotel," Councilwoman Toni Iseman said. Project architect William Peters said the board denied the project because it failed to see the benefits of the basement, which would be totally underground and would conceal and muffle the sound of equipment, such as air conditioning, which is designed for room-by-room control.

'Heroic' sculpture on loan at LCAD A life-sized sculpture is on long-term loan to Laguna College of Art & Design. "Nureyev Heroic," by Richard MacDonald, is now part of the campus collection. MacDonald's work can also be seen in Dawson Cole Fine Art in Laguna Beach. In addition, his work is featured in private collections of President Bill Clinton, opera legend Luciano Pavarotti and author Dean Koontz. "This sculpture communicates a profound and deep understanding of humanity.

The following is from the March 1 meeting of the Laguna Beach City Council. Arts Commissioner Patricia Kollenda announced Alliance for Arts activities, which can be reviewed at http://www.lagunabeacharts.org . She also announced that No Square Theatre's benefit production of "Maimed" raised $20,000 for artists whose property and belongings were damaged in the December deluge. The council unanimously denied a claim filed by the law offices of Edward J. Deason on behalf of Susan Perrine, of Laguna Niguel Perrine claimed she was crossing Pacific Coast Highway at Cress Street on July 2, 2010, and tripped on a hole and raised sidewalk, fell forward and struck her head on a concrete planter, causing serious and permanent head injuries.
