Laguna musicians Robert Cassard and Bara Waters are known around town for their “Under the Rock” charity concerts, which have drawn hundreds of locals to such renowned venues as Moss Point and Bridge Hall and have raised significant sums for area charities.  But now Cassard and Waters have settled on the Canyon Lodge (formerly Ben Brown’s) as the cozy scene of their new musical “parties with a purpose.”   The first Soulfood Session in July lured scores of fans deep into Aliso Canyon for food, fun, acoustic soul and lush three-part harmonies.

Three local musicians have been ?partying with a purpose? for years, but this summer the partying has been going on at Aliso Creek Inn?s Canyon Lodge. The last ?Soulfood Session? of the summer with Robert Cassard, Paul Manfrini and Bara Waters will be from 7 to 10 p.m. this Thursday. After each Soulfood Session, the band surprises a local charity by donating a portion of their earnings. ?It?s more like a party because it crosses the bridge from a concert to music, fun and food,?

  Filmmakers Kailee McGee and Rich Costales will host a fundraising soiree from 8 to 10:30 p.m. today at 805 Laguna Canyon Road to celebrate and raise money for "The Dust," a documentary that takes an intimate look inside the Sawdust Art Festival's 44th season. The event will include a premiere of the trailer, hors d'oeuvres and wine, a silent auction of original artwork and jewelry from Sawdust artists and an array of other fun items including VIP tickets to Universal Studios in Hollywood and Orlando, a night at the Venetian in Vegas and concert tickets to see the Blue Man Group.
