It took one swing Tuesday to keep the postseason hopes alive for the Laguna Beach High baseball team. Sophomore Steven Harrison provided the dramatics for Laguna when he delivered a home run to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Breakers to a 5-4 victory over visiting Victor Valley in a CIF Southern Section Division 4 wild-card game. Harrison's walk-off blast, which came with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh, sent Laguna to a first-round game Thursday in Pasadena against La Salle.

Noah Brewster, who will begin his senior year at Laguna Beach High in September, has been named an honorable mention player at the So Cal Cup III. The baseball tournament, played at Long Beach City College, pitted four All-Star teams from Orange County, the Inland Empire, Los Angeles County and San Diego County in round robin play. Each team was composed of a 30-player roster. The Orange County All-Star team, to which Brewster belonged, went undefeated in tournament play.

Laguna Beach High?s Zach Nuno has been named the co-Pitcher of the Year on the 2008 All-Orange Coast League baseball team. The senior shares the honor with Calvary Chapel senior Steven DeArmond. Shortstop Cole Wilson, also a senior at Calvary Chapel, was named the league?s Most Valuable Player. Nuno was one of six Breakers to make all-league. Named to the first team were senior shortstop Dalton Sype and freshman third baseman Chris Paul. Junior utility Jake Sganga, junior catcher Gabe Stansbury and senior pitcher Julian Deline were named to the second team.

AAA Division-leading Sportsworld shook off any lingering effects from spring break to notch a resounding, 15-1 victory over Diamond Resort in Laguna Beach Little League action Wednesday at Riddle Field. Sportsworld starter Blake Pivaroff continued to amaze by throwing a perfect three innings, striking out eight of the nine batters he faced. Sportsworld's offense got rolling thanks to a Pivaroff double, and solid singles by Christian Holm and Dillon Gaboury. The knockout blow for Sportsworld came in the bottom of the second inning when Wyatt Shipp hit a two-out grand slam over the center-field fence.

LBHS Junior Varsity Baseball 8 Estancia HS Junior Varsity Baseball 7 LBHS Junior Varsity Baseball team came from behind Thursday, May 8, in the bottom of the 7th inning with a 6-run rally to defeat a strong Estancia HS team at home at the Skipper Carrillo Field. The Estancia team was a combination of JV and Varsity players and played hard and with determination. Austin Paxton started pitching for Laguna and kept the Estancia Eagles to just 4 runs through 5 innings.

Two members of the Laguna Beach High 2005 boys' volleyball team have been named All-CIF Southern Section. Seniors Luke Morris and Andrew Chapel earned that distinction, with Morris making the first team and Chapel being named to the second team in Division II. The Laguna Beach baseball program begins the 2011 season with high hopes. The Breakers are thinking big and hoping that momentum they gained at the end of last season translates to bigger things this year. Laguna returns eight players from a 2010 team that went 16-14 and posted the most victories in a single season in program history. The Breakers also won a playoff game, a wild-card victory over Don Lugo that marked just the second time the program has recorded a postseason win. Their season ended in a loss to a Palm Desert team that went on to win the Division 4 championship.

Mike Sciacca Nolan may have won the regular season AAA Division championship, but the team has become a target in Laguna Beach Little League postseason play. The SG G-Men continued to roll in the playoffs by adding Nolan to their list of victims, as they scored a 6-4 upset. The G-Men went up against Nolan starting pitcher Michael Opera but went on to churn out six runs off the ace and reliever Ryan Raffo with a balanced offensive output of Andrew Shapero, Jackson Christy, Tyler MacRae, Ian Greene and Tyce Phillipi.

Three members of the Laguna Beach High baseball team were selected to the 2003 All-Pacific Coast League Baseball Team, the league announced. Senior Brian Beck, who played first base and outfield and pitched for the Breakers during the season, was named to the 11-member First Team. Two Laguna players, senior pitcher Jonathon Cedeno and junior third baseman/pitcher/catcher Conley Sampson, were named to the 11-member Second Team. Corona del Mar junior Josh Bradbury was named the league MVP and Northwood junior Brian Deloach was named the Most Valuable pitcher.

The outcome of the Majors Division game between Team Hobie and VFW wasn?t decided until relief pitcher Garrett Burk set down VFW in its final at-bat as Hobie held on for a 5-4 victory in Laguna Beach Little League action Saturday at Riddle Field. Burk took over late in the game for starter Morgan Lebby whose strong pitching performance included six strikeouts and a key double-play in the sixth inning. Lebby got in 5 2/3 innings of work before being relieved by Burk. Cameron Hall hit a home run to help give Hobie a 2-0 lead.
