The accomplishments of 100 Laguna Beach High School graduating seniors were recognized at the Honors Convocation Friday at the Artists Theatre. The community groups, businesses and folks who made it possible were recognized at an elegant reception and dinner in the upper patio before the convocation. “Tonight’s honors convocation is about dreams, opportunities and the future of the class of 2009,” said Marge Earl , outgoing president of the Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation.

Suzie Harrison Ninety-one students were honored with scholarships at this year's Laguna Beach High School convocation program. Wednesday night, more than $150,000 in funding was handed out at the annual event, which has been taking place more more than 20 years. Many of the scholarships are from individuals and are awarded in honor of a spouse or loved one. Families and community businesses and places such as No Square Theatre, Festival of the Arts and Thurston Middle School donate other scholarships with amounts starting at $50 and exceeding $7,000.

Foundation to hold convocation The Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation will hold its annual Honors Convocation honoring the Class of 2004 at 7 p.m. June 2 at the high school's Artists Theater, 625 Park Ave. For information, call (949) 497-7750, ext. 212. Teacher Chris Krach will be honored or her years of excellence at a special dinner reception prior to the convocation. School board meeting highlights The May 25 Laguna Beach Unified School District meeting was highlighted with the board approval of the $84,490 state-of-the-art computer purchases for Thurston Middle School's Tech Lab. It was unanimously approved to budget the purchase of Power Mac G5 computers for the new Technology lab. Scholarship foundation marks 20th anniversary The Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation will celebrate its 20th anniversary at this year?s Honors Convocation on June 4. All past foundation trustees are invited to a reception today to celebrate its accomplishments. To attend, call Margie Bell at (949) 494-2864 or Jeannie Harrell at (949) 497-7750, ext. 212. The district?s history of benevolence began in 1938, when the Ebell Club, a women?s community service organization, first gave scholarships.

More than $190,000 was presented to graduating seniors at the 2006 Laguna Beach High School Honors Convocation, held June 7 in the Artists Theatre. The record-breaking amount and number of scholarships was announced at a reception for donors and presenters, hosted before the convocation by the Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation. "We may have one of the largest scholarship programs, per student, of any scholarship program in the state, if not the county," foundation President Debra Steel said.

Those who gave a record $300,000 in scholarships and financial awards to Laguna Beach High School's graduating class received recognition at the Honors Convocation. Laguna Beach Scholarship Foundation members, educators and past scholarship recipients praised the generosity of the donors at a pre-convocation reception and dinner June 10. "This reception is about you — our donors and presenters," said Marsha Aronoff, outgoing president of the foundation. "There would be no awards ceremony without you. The scholarships we give tonight, through your generosity, recognize the potential in these students and give them opportunities they might not otherwise have.
