March 17 ? on Tuesday this year ? is St. Patrick?s Day, also ?St. Paddy?s Day,? which celebrates St. Patrick (385-461 AD), one of the patron saints of Ireland. The ?feast day? is believed to mark the date of his death, and is also a celebration of Irish history and culture. A national holiday in Ireland, it is an unofficial but highly celebrated holiday in the U.S. Traditionally, people wear green and enjoy Irish delicacies and drinks such as corned beef, cabbage, and Irish beer and whiskey.

DINING OUT Always a mecca of bustling activity, Hennessey's Tavern, which debuted here in 1986, is the longest-running success story on Ocean Avenue's Restaurant Row. A sidewalk-facing open deck, usually crammed with a hip young crowd, sets a happy pace for the interior bar and adjoining dining room both equipped with ceiling-suspended TV sets. Upstairs there's live entertainment for dancing Wednesday through Saturday. Thus, there's something for everyone at the restaurant which attracts young families whose toddlers are entertained with their own menus to color and sports fans whose passion is easy to catch, especially when major games are in progress.

Seminar talks about health care directives The Susi Q Senior Center will present a free seminar titled ?Advance health care directives, what everyone should know,? at 2 p.m. March 28 at the center, 380 Third St. Advanced health care directives allow you to have legal control over your health care treatment in the event that you are unable to speak for yourself, providing an efficient and flexible format for planning your future health care. Attorney R. Lee Anderson will share his expertise explaining the legal terms and guiding the participants through the process of filling out the forms.

Color It Orange judges selected works by 56 students in local schools for the annual juried exhibition, which opened Sunday at the Laguna Beach College of Art & Design. The judges picked 37 entries from Laguna's public schools: 34 by Thurston Middle School students, three by Laguna Beach High School students, none from the elementary schools. Fifteen entries by students at Anneliese's, a state licensed private school, were selected, and four were chosen from St. Catherine's parochial school.

Is it true that eating late will make you fat? It?s been commonly assumed that late evening is the worst time to eat because your body slows down then. Could this be another urban myth? Maybe so! Apparently there are no conclusive studies proving that it makes any difference when you consume those essential calories. ?Your body doesn?t really recognize what time it is, it is a little bit of a myth,? said Nigel Denby, of the British Dietetic Assn. ?The bottom line is a calorie is a calorie whenever you eat it.?
