The new superintendent of Crystal Cove State Park is striving to complete the RV park by spring of next year. Todd Lewis, who most recently worked for the park system in Northern California, said he is busy but so far hasn’t had any difficulty in handling everything that is going on in the park. According to him, the transition to his new job has been smooth. “I’m from San Diego County,” Lewis said. “Lived down there for many years. And so I knew what I was getting into.

Thursday is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, a worldwide holiday founded by Sen. Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in, to inspire awareness and respect for the Earth. As global climate change threatens natural resources and biodiversity, a switch to a more eco-conscious, sustainable and healthy way of living is more vital than ever, according to supporters. To commemorate the day, environmental groups and activists throughout Laguna Beach will hold events to educate the community, host clean-ups and other activities.

There is some good news on the economic front this week in the revival of the El Morro RV campground project at Crystal Cove State Park. Work to finish the once-halted project is expected to continue at the end of the month, after the state was able to find buyers for its bonds. Another tidbit also represents a glimmer of light and movement in the economy: City Manager Ken Frank reports that the state was finally able to pay $75,000 that it owed the city as part of a grant to help fund construction of the senior center.

Ken Kramer said. “This was one of 5,000 projects that was halted and is one of the first to be restarted, after the successful sales of California bonds.
