Gallimaufry Performing Arts will take audiences back in time with two musical performances, ?Thoroughly Modern Millie? and ?Bugsy Malone,? which will premiere Thursday and July 25, respectively, at the Artists? Theatre in Laguna Beach. Artistic Director Steve Josephson said he?s thrilled to finally put on ?Thoroughly Modern Millie,? a widely adored musical for which it?s taken him three years to get approval to direct in Orange County. ?I thought it would be fun to pair this with another 1920s New York City musical that has fantastic songs and dance numbers,?

Gallimaufry Performing Arts and Gallimaufry & Greene will present a duo of performances next weekend for audiences of all ages. Florence Mills, the Harlem jazz queen of the 1920s, never cut a record and never made a movie. Her legacy might well have faded into obscurity were it not for a retrospective by a Laguna Beach performance company titled, "Harlem Renaissance." This musical tribute by Gallimaufry Performing Arts to the Cotton Club performers in general and the legendary Mills in particular received its "out of town tryout" last weekend in Leisure World. For those who missed it, Gallimaufry will present an encore April 28 on Laguna's Main Beach.

Laguna Playhouse honors Indiana Jones The Laguna Playhouse honored Harrison Ford with a Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month at a gala at the Montage Resort and Spa. With 350 people in attendance, the gala was the most successful in the playhouse's 83-year history, netting $160,000. Ford was in the March 1965 production "John Brown's Body." Ford's girlfriend Calista Flockhart was by his side. They first attended a private VIP reception at Sindi and Ron Schwartz's ocean-view home at the Villas at Montage.

Tom Titus "The Wizard of Oz" has been with us for more than a century, although most moviegoers would point to the 1939 screen version as the definitive version of the classic L. Frank Baum fantasy. The Laguna Playhouse's Youth Theater has chosen this timeless classic as its second production of the season, on stage this weekend and playing through Dec. 22 under the direction of Joe Lauderdale, longtime director of the playhouse's Youth Theater. "Audiences should not come to the playhouse expecting to see the film recreated on the stage," Lauderdale cautioned.

Gallimaufry Performing Arts of Laguna Beach is looking forward to scaling new heights in 2006. Formed in 2004, the multi-faceted organization produced 11 events in 2005 ? including "A Chorus Line," "Seussical," two musical reviews ("Duets" and "Best of Broadway"), three Dance Day festivals, a teen theatre company production of "Weird Romance," and the inaugural caDance Festival. The combined attendance to their events rose to more than 13,000 audience members? a 300% increase over the company's first year, Executive Artistic Director Steve Josephson said.

BARBARA DIAMOND The National Charity League members and their daughters pledge their time, resources and energy to community service. Somehow, the young women in the Laguna Beach chapter seem to find time to participate in athletics and school activities and achieve education honors, as well as volunteering as Ticktockers in the mother/daughter organization. The culmination of the six-year program is the Debutante Ball, to be held this year on Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton in Dana Point.
