EDITOR'S NOTE : The following is excerpted from a letter sent to associates and media by Richard Stein, who recently left after 17 years as executive director of the Laguna Playhouse. I'd like to thank you for the friendship and support you showed me during my 17 years at the helm of the Laguna Playhouse, and I'd like to tell you a little bit about what I'm doing. It has been a long and successful tenure, but after 30 years of running theater companies (with a couple of brief detours to other arts institutions)

Time running out for Boom Boom Room We are truly at the 11th hour of our 1 ½ year crusade to save the historic Boom Boom Room and Coast Inn in Laguna Beach. The property's owner, Steven Udvar-Hazy and the operators of the Boom Boom Room and the Coast Inn were apparently unable to reach an agreement to keep the bar, restaurant and hotel open past this coming Labor Day Weekend. So it appears a change will occur in less than three weeks' time. We have heard there are several interested parties in negotiations with the property owner to either buy or lease the three parcels he owns on Coast Highway and Mountain in Laguna Beach but the clock is ticking.

The following is from the Jan. 30 Laguna Beach City Council meeting. PUBLIC COMMENT Ryan Wanigaserera, owner of Pacific Towing, also speaking on behalf of Laguna Beach Towing, asked the council for a fee increase for city-contracted towing services. You’ve probably noticed the Coastline Pilot has a different look this week. There are a lot of changes to the front page and inside, as well. Even the size of the paper has changed. It’s now a half-inch narrower in keeping with the size of our sister newspapers, the Daily Pilot and the Huntington Beach Independent. If you look at the website, you’ll find it’s been completely retooled as well. Now, at www.coastlinepilot.com , you’ll be able to post your own news stories and photos, as well as see all the stories in the print edition.

The following is from the July 17 meeting of the Laguna Beach City Council. PUBLIC COMMENT Dan McFarland presented signatures of Park Avenue residents who want the speed limit there reduced to 25 miles per hour. He asked the council to take action because, in his opinion, presenting his request to the Parking, Traffic and Circulation Committee would be too time-consuming. "Going through the PTC is the usual procedure and I think we have to stick with it," Mayor Toni Iseman said.
