The Laguna Beach Chili Peppers, a girls? third- and fourth-grade National Junior Basketball team, capped a perfect regular season Saturday by defeating Laguna Hills, 24-14. Center Grace Snedegar and forwards Aria Fischer and Sophia Lucas powered the Chili Peppers? inside game in the first half and guards Crystal Curras and Nicole Davidson were able to successfully penetrate the Laguna Hills defense. In the second half, the Chili Peppers continued to dominate behind the play of guards Kate Kruger and Isabel Mansour, forwards Kirsten Landsiedel and Lexi McKeown and center Jessica Guerinot.

Pitz earns runner-up honors Taylor Pitz of Laguna Beach finished second in the Open Women's division of the third contest of the National Scholastic Surfing Assn. 2010-11 Open Season on Wednesday at the Del Mar Jetty at Camp Pendleton. Pitz scored 10.5 points. The next NSSA Open Season contest is Nov. 6 and 7 at the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier. Van Alphen wins three matches Sydney Van Alphen of Laguna Beach won all three matches she competed in Sunday at the Orange County Junior Open Tennis Tournament.

The Laguna Beach Water Polo 14-and-under girls' team brought home the bronze medal from the recent Winterfest tournament at Fullerton College. This tournament featured some of the strongest teams from throughout the state. Laguna's 14 girls' squad competed in the top flight division. Laguna began the tournament with a 12-4 win against Riverside Water Polo. In the next two games, Laguna leveraged its defensive prowess and shut down the opposing teams' offense, resulting in a 10-2 victory over Anteater UCI and a 12-3 win over Northwood.

The Laguna Beach girls' 14-and-under water polo team won the Southern Pacific Age Group Championships last weekend at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine. Laguna started tourney play Sunday and collected two wins. The first was a 10-6 decision over International of Los Alamitos. The second came by a 9-5 score against Northwood of Irvine. The two wins put Laguna in Sunday's semifinals. In the semifinals, Laguna knocked off Corona del Mar, 10-5, to set up a showdown with SET of Saddleback/El Toro, for the championship.

In an intense and action packed game this past Saturday, the Jolly Ranchers defeated the Ice Breakers in the final game of the AYSO girl's 10 and under division to secure the Laguna Beach Championship.  The Jolly Ranchers jumped out to a lead in the first half and added a second goal in the 2nd half to defeat a talented and tough Ice Breaker team in a final score of 2-0.  Head Coach Andrew Hockaday said, "This team really fought hard today and kept their focus in battling such a strong opposing team.

The Laguna Chicks Football Club finished undefeated and earned a second-place finish in the AYSO girls? Under-12 division in a season shortened by last week?s fires. All soccer action was canceled last weekend (Oct. 27-28) due to poor air quality. The Laguna Chicks will take a 6-0-2 record into the upcoming playoffs. In its final match of the regular season, Laguna got past the Mini Mights, the division?s third-place team, winning 2-1 on Oct. 20 at Top of the World School in Laguna.

The Laguna Beach Water Polo Club girls' 12-and-Under and 14-and-Under teams won gold medals on Sunday at the 2012 Turbo Orange County Cup. * 12U Girls Laguna started the tournament Saturday at El Toro and pulled out an 11-10 win over International of Los Alamitos. The team won easily in their second outing Saturday, defeating Northwood, 13-3. Laguna also cruised to two more victories Sunday. The locals started the day with a 12-2 rout of Rosebowl of Pasadena.

The Laguna Beach 12-and-Under and 14-and-Under girls' club water polo teams opened their season on winning notes. Both squads won the Evan Cousineau Cup last weekend. The 12U team opened tournament play Saturday at El Toro High with a 9-4 victory over Riverside. Later in the day, Laguna was a 12-7 winner over 680 Drivers Club of Northern California. In the semifinal round on Sunday, Laguna got off to a slow start against SOCAL but came on strong in the second half to post an 11-7 victory.

The Laguna Beach Water Polo Club's girls' 14-and-Under team defended its title at the Laguna Beach Tournament by going undefeated. Laguna won four games at the event March 25. Laguna started tourney play with an 8-2 win against Corona del Mar, then scored a 14-2 win over San Diego Shores. In the semifinals, Laguna took an impressive 10-2 win over a strong Commerce team to set up a finals showdown with So Cal. In the division title game, Laguna, coached by Erich Fischer and Scott Baldridge, came away with a 7-4 victory.

The Laguna Beach Water Polo Club girls' 14-Under team tuned up for the upcoming Junior Olympics tournament by playing up and winning the 16U division Sunday at the Hale Summer Championships in Riverside. The three-day tournament includes teams from throughout the U.S. and Canada. Laguna was one of 22 teams entered in the 16U division. Laguna opened the tournament July 20 with a 15-4 win against PNW United from Washington state. The team started its Saturday game schedule against British Columbia.
