AREA 1 North Coast Highway: At 11:07 a.m. Monday a caller in the 1400 block reported receiving 18 sexually explicit phone messages. Broadway Street: Drinking in public was reported in the 300 block at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The caller said three males and one female at a bus depot were drinking and had a bag of marijuana. Circle Way: A sea lion was seen near a cave at 10:42 a.m. Saturday. The caller said the animal may be sick. Crescent Bay Drive: An unknown type of bird covered with tar was reported in the 200 block at Crescent Bay Park at 2:06 p.m. Saturday.

MADERA ? Laguna Beach resident Michael Lewis captured the United States Auto Club California Pavement Ford Focus pole position Saturday at the Madera Speedway, driving the No. 60 Western Speed Focus Midget care with a lap of 14.482 seconds. Lewis finished the 25-lap main event in fifth after two on-track incidents, putting him to the back of the pack each time. ?We definitely had the speed, but it was a wild night out there and I just got caught up in a couple of racing incidents,?

After winning at Orange Show Speedway the last time Michael Lewis drove the No. 60 Western Speed Ford Focus midget in the United States Auto Club California Pavement Ford Focus Series, he visited New Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday with high expectations. Before a packed house of enthusiastic Northern California race fans, the Laguna Beach resident qualified second, which placed him inside the third row for the start of the 40-lap feature at the quarter-mile asphalt oval track in Stockton.

Laguna Beach?s Michael Lewis sped into the 2010 race season by setting quick time at Tucson Raceway Park?s 3/8-mile paved oval Jan. 1 for the track?s special USAC Ford Focus event. Lewis and his Western Speed Ford Focus team started off strong as he and teammate Cody Gerhardt qualified first and second, respectively. USAC officials and the track promoter agreed to change the original program from a 30-lap feature event to two 20-lap features. In the first 20-lap feature, Lewis started sixth and got to the front quickly, winning the event.

Michael Lewis, the 2009 Formula BMW Americas Rookie Cup winner, will join the U.S. Formula Project Formula BMW Europe team and will compete in all of the 2010 Formula BMW Europe events. The announcement was made by U.S. Formula Project Team Manager Alessandro Ferrari. Lewis, a Laguna Beach resident, will be the only American competing in the Formula BMW Europe series in 2010. Although he is joining a new team to this series, Ferrari brings an extensive motorsports background, being the former race director of the historic WSK (World Series Karting)

Wacholder forfeits, while Pavlik has new partner Laguna Beach High product Rachel Wacholder and partner Kerri Walsh had to forfeit their final two matches at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Muskegon Open in Michigan, due to Wacholder?s nagging shoulder injury. Second-seeded Wacholder and Walsh finished tied for fifth, splitting $6,240. At the same tournament, Laguna Beach resident Whitney Pavlik split from Stacy Rouwenhorst, finding a new partner in tour veteran Nancy Mason.

Laguna Beach resident Michael Lewis earned the 2009 Formula BMW Americas Rookie Driver championship Sunday at the Mosport International Raceway in Canada. Lewis arrived to Mosport in second place in the Rookie Championship standings, trailing by only two points. But he drove the No. 42 Eurointernational car consistently in four practice sessions, eventually qualifying fourth for the Saturday and Sunday final events, ahead of rookie competitors James Kovacic of Australia and Alex Ellis of Canada.

Laguna Beach police arrested two adults and a juvenile on suspicion of selling marijuana in separate incidents late Tuesday and early Wednesday, Sgt. Darin Lenyi said. Two men were spotted driving the wrong way on Monterey Street on March 27 at 11:25 p.m., and when stopped, the officer noticed a detectable odor of marijuana, Lenyi said. The vehicle was searched and approximately 10 pounds of marijuana was discovered in a duffle bag in the cargo area of the vehicle, a Ford Focus.

Laguna Beach resident Michael Lewis traveled to Japan to visit the Okayama International Circuit for Rounds 13 and 14 of the Formula BMW Pacific series with the Eurointernational team and proved that he was fast right from the first practice session. But, unfortunately, the results did not show his potential. Lewis arrived in Japan late Oct. 28, after a 14-hour trip from Los Angeles, and he went right to work Oct. 29 learning the track to prepare for Oct. 30?s practice and qualifying sessions.
