?Snouthenge? maquette debuts ?Snouthenge? ? a maquette of the rumored predecessor to Stonehenge, designed by Southern California artist John L. Steenhoven, will be displayed with a selection of sculptural works from Steenhoven?s 2009 ?Enchantment Series? at the Cove Gallery throughout April. An opening reception will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. April 4. Commenting on the inspiration for Snouthenge, Steenhoven noted a recent theory speculating that the prehistoric monument, Stonehenge, erected in 3000 B.C. in the English county of Wiltshire, was in fact a remnant of Snouthenge.

For us, the pleasures of browsing in a real bookstore compared to browsing for books on the net is like having a gourmet dinner at The Studio versus eating a TV dinner at home. So, we were thrilled when Jane Hanauer bravely opened Laguna Beach Books in the new Old Pottery Place complex. We use the word "bravely" because independent bookstores are having a hard time these days with online competition. Maybe we are old-fashioned but in an actual bookstore the process of discovery and the interaction with the bookseller are part of the total experience that makes it a happy place to be. When it comes to cookbooks, it is almost impossible to make a choice without leafing through and reading some of the recipes.

Not all authors are as good at speaking as they are at writing, so the guests at the 26th annual Literary Luncheon on Saturday had a real treat. The Laguna Beach Chapter of the American Assn. of University Women hosted the annual luncheon at the Surf & Sand Resort. It was sold out. Authors Rahimeh Andalibian , Maggie Anton , Margaret Dilloway and Nicole Mones entranced the audience with snippets of their lives, how they became writers and some tidbits from what they had written.

Art-A-Fair juries works from many areas Artists recently flocked to the Boys & Girls Clubs to participate in the jurying process for this year’s Art-A-Fair. More than 100 hopefuls submitted their work in two- and three-dimensional media, ranging from textiles and sculpture to photography and paintings. Celebrating its 42nd season this year, the show will run nine weeks, from June 27 to Aug. 31. Artists traveled from Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego and Riverside Counties, as well as many other states, including Hawaii, Nebraska, Texas, New York, Arizona, Washington, and Nevada.
