Renowned Laguna poet to launch book Marcia Cohee, an often-published Laguna Beach poet, will launch her latest book, ?Story,? tonight at Golden West College. Cohee, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, is the author of six chapbooks as well as three full-length collections: ?Sexual Terrain? (1986), ?Laguna Canyon Was Once a River? (1991) and ?Bonefire? (1996). She has also published more than 250 poems in literary magazines and anthologies. Along with her husband, Pat, Cohee co-hosted the Laguna Poets reading series and edited the Laguna Poets chapbook series for many years.

A 51-year-old Laguna Beach mother was arrested, and dozens of juveniles detained, after police were called to a party with about 70 young people, some as young as 13, in the 30000 block of Mar Vista Avenue at 9:27 p.m. Sept. 24, Sgt. Louise Callus said. Police had been alerted to a large number of illegally parked vehicles in the neighborhood. Officers alleged that some juveniles had been consuming alcohol at the party, which was reportedly put on by the mother of a juvenile who lives at the residence, Callus said.

Laguna Beach High evened the score with Northwood in Pacific Coast League play by posting a come-from-behind, 22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 15-12 victory over the visiting Timberwolves. Two nights prior, Northwood had handed Laguna its first league loss. By avenging that loss, Laguna improved to 3-1 in league heading into spring break. After dropping a tough first game, Laguna routed the Timberwolves in game No. 2, despite having seven service errors.

They were more than 50 graduates of the Laguna Beach Police Department's Citizen's Academy who reunited Saturday to get a taste of two of the grittier aspects of police training. After a quick lunch at the Golden West College Police Academy in Huntington Beach, the guests had a chance to train for life or death situations with the academy's firearms simulator and duke it out with police in a mock baton fight.

KOCE-TV, the only public television station in Orange County, will have a competitor in the near future. KCET, which covers Los Angeles and much of the Southland, announced plans Wednesday to partner with Cal State Fullerton to start a new Orange County digital channel. The station and the university plan to launch KCET Orange, a 24-hour network featuring news, local arts and educational programming, by fall of 2007. KCET, which launched in 1964, is the West Coast flagship station of PBS and reaches 11 counties, including Orange County.
