Suzie Harrison It is the most extensive youth art exhibition in Orange County. It also is among the most competitive. On Sunday, a sea of families and friends flooded Laguna College of Art and Design for the 31st annual Color It Orange juried youth exhibit. The long-standing show, which is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12, drew more than 4,000 entries. Only 700 pieces were juried into the exhibit, including works by 30 Laguna Beach High School and Thurston students.

Pastel artists juried show at Esther Wells For the second year, the Esther Wells Collection will host the United Society of Pastel Artists third annual Membership Juried Show. An opening reception is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 1390 S. Coast Hwy. Twenty-six member artists have had work juried into the exhibition, adjudicated by Robin Hall. Awards for landscape, still life and figure will be awarded during the opening reception. Along with the 26 juried artists, guest artist Sally Strand will also have work on display.

Portfolio reviews at open house The Laguna College of Art & Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road, will host an open house and portfolio review day on Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free parking is available; light refreshments will be served. Prospective students will meet with admissions staff and faculty, and participate in a series of workshops on admissions, portfolio advising, federal and state aid, and scholarships. Guided tours will also be available. The students will also have an opportunity to present their portfolio to experienced college representatives, who will review and critique their work, as well as offer guidance and direction.

No Square Sondheim show tickets available No Square Theatre will present ?Side by Side by Sondheim,? celebrating the work of the composer-lyricist at 8 p.m. Feb. 1 and 2 at the Artists? Theatre, 625 Park Ave. The show, which debuted in London in 1976, features songs from shows including ?A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,? ?Gypsy,? ?Pacific Overtures,? ?West Side Story,? ?Company,? ?Follies,? and ?A Little Night Music.? It will feature Hollywood film critic, columnist and satirist Bill Harris as the narrator and a cast of 13 singers and three musicians.

Laguna College of Art & Design raised $110,000 to benefit student programs and scholarships at the 19th annual Collector’s Choice Fine Art Event and Exhibition on Saturday at the college’s campus. More than 450 people attended the sold-out event. This was the college’s largest and most successful fundraiser to date, college officials said. The evening included a silent auction, raffle and a live auction by Arts Commissioner Mike Tauber, who acted as the conductor wearing train gear and blowing a whistle.
