The season came to an end for the Laguna Beach Little League 11-year-old All-Star team, which fell to Laguna Niguel, 14-1, in an elimination game in the District 55 All-Star tournament at Wagon Wheel Sports Park in Trabuco Canyon. The Laguna Beach Little League Juniors winter ball team continued its winning ways on Nov. 9 by overcoming gusty winds and chilly temperatures to edge Laguna Hills, 12-11, at Alta Laguna Park. Laguna Beach fell behind quickly as Laguna Hills bolted to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. But Laguna Beach came back to post a big third inning, getting five runs off four walks, a long single to center field by Blake Hester and a bases-clearing triple by Harrison Williams. Laguna Beach added another five runs in the fourth inning by combining singles by Nick Channels, Morgan Lebby, Garrett Burk and Kaito Lee and aggressive base-running and a few walks with throwing errors by Laguna Hills.

The Laguna Beach girls' Division 1 team got its 2012-13 season off to a winning start Saturday by defeating Laguna Hills Team 1, 37-19, in National Junior Basketball action at Thurston Middle School in Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach got off to a slow start and trailed, 12-6, after the first quarter. They rallied behind a tough defense and balanced scoring and pulled away in the second half. Sophia Lucas led Laguna Beach with nine points. Nicole Davidson scored eight points and had five steals and both Madison Sinclair and Rachel Kinney scored six points.

The 2012-13 season got underway last weekend for Laguna Beach National Junior Basketball teams, three of whom picked up opening day victories. GIRLS' NJB Division 2 Laguna Beach 31, Aliso Niguel 14: Piper Naess scored a game-high 12 points and had several steals on defense, as host Laguna registered its first win at Thurston Middle School. Molly Cohn pitched in seven points from the point position, Izzy Meekma scored six points and Evie Laptin added four points. Laguna and Aliso Niguel will face each other on Dec. 15 at Thurston Middle School.

The Laguna Beach girls' Division 2 National Junior Basketball team completed a perfect regular season Saturday by defeating visiting Lake Forest, 42-20, in weekend NJB play at Thurston Middle School in Laguna Beach. The decisive victory allowed the Breakers to win the South County Division which includes teams from Capistrano Valley, El Toro, Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo and San Clemente. Piper Naess led the scoring with 13 points, Izzy Meekma had nine points, Grace Gilles and Ella Dartez scored six points apiece, Avi Brice had four points, and Shanti Nunn , Pearl Sinclair and Jamie Mackay each scored two points.

The Laguna Beach girls' fifth/sixth grade National Junior Basketball team continued its winning ways Saturday by running past Laguna Hills, 29-4, at Laguna Hills. The Laguna Beach boys' 5/6 team dropped a close game to Laguna Hills (UCLA), losing, 32-30, and also fell, 51-23, to the Laguna Beach No. 1 team. The Laguna Beach girls took command from the start and won with ease. Isabel Mansour led the scoring with nine points. Sophia Lucas scored eight points and Evie Laptin and Quinn Winter added six and three points, respectively.

Three Laguna Beach National Junior Basketball teams scored convincing victories last weekend to remain undefeated on the new season. It was the final games of the year for Laguna teams which resume their season schedules in January. Boys' Division 3 The Laguna Beach Team 2 improved to 3-0 by rolling to a 60-25 victory over the Laguna Hills Thunder. Nolan Naess netted a game-high 18 points and Will Compton, who had a big game scoring from the outside, scored 16 points for the Breakers.

Mike Swanson Police arrested a Laguna Hills resident June 6 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after they say he drove his truck the wrong way on Ocean Avenue and onto the sidewalk in an apparent attempt to hit a pedestrian. David Lee Horton, 23, apparently followed the victim, Daniel Raessner of Irvine, to Laguna Beach. Raessner said he had just driven from a court date in Laguna Hills involving Horton's soon-to-be adoptive father, Dwayne Brigham, Det. Natalie Leal said.
