Barricade keeps police busy for nearly two hours Laguna Beach police arrested a Buena Park man and a Dana Point woman after the pair had reportedly barricaded themselves inside an apartment with two children and two other adults in Club Laguna Tuesday, near the Aliso Viejo border. Police responded to a domestic violence call made by a neighbor at 11:07 p.m. Monday and arrested 44-year-old Joseph Ausilio on suspicion of violating a restraining order and 28-year-old Erin Modoff on suspicion of delaying an officer.

The Laguna Beach Little League Junior League All-Star team didn't let an opening game letdown interfere with its comeback effort Monday at the District 55 All-Star Tournament in Aliso Viejo. Laguna Beach, smarting from a 23-4 opening round loss Saturday to Laguna Hills, showed its mettle Monday by defeating Saddleback 8-3 in an elimination contest at Woodfield Park. The Laguna All-Star Juniors are made up of players from one team ? the Firefighters, who are the lone team the league fields at the Junior League level.

The Laguna Beach High baseball wasn't fundamentally sound Tuesday in its Orange Coast League game at Costa Mesa, and it was a performance that left Coach Dave Dopf frustrated. And the Breakers came out of it with a loss. Laguna jumped out to a 1-0 lead but couldn't maintain it as the Mustangs went on to record a 5-2 victory. It was the third win in as many games for Costa Mesa against Laguna this year. "It was a very frustrating game," Dopf said. "We had bases loaded in the third and fourth innings, and couldn't score.

Man arrested in hit-and-run A Laguna Hills man was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff's Department on suspicion of a hit-and-run accident involving several vehicles. Jose Ramirez, 31, was arrested after a 1996 Ford Mustang speeding in a parking lot reportedly struck a 2000 Honda at an apartment complex in the 100 block of San Tropez Court at around 8:30 a.m. Jan. 9. The collision with the Honda reportedly caused a domino effect that led to damage to a Ford Taurus and a 2000 Chevy.

Mike Sciacca Thirteen eager players representing Laguna Beach Little League will begin their bid Saturday to bring a District 55 title back to the city when they take on Trabuco Canyon Little League in the opening round of the 9/10 All-Star Tournament of Champions. The Laguna Beach-Trabuco Canyon game, which is part of the Area B competition, will begin at noon at LaPaz Park. Rancho Niguel Little League is the host of the 9/10 All-Star Tournament.

The Laguna Beach 14-and-Under girls' water polo team won the gold medal and the Laguna 12U girls won silver at the Winterfest tournament last weekend. Sixteen teams played for the 14U title and 12 teams vied for the 12U crown. Laguna's 14U team opened tourney play against traditional power SoCal of Tustin and scored an 11-3 victory. Next came a 19-5 win over Chino Hills Area Water Polo (CHAWP) and was followed by a 12-7 win over Corona del Mar (CDM) that put Laguna in the semifinals.

The Laguna Beach girls' Division 2 (grade 5/6) team improved to 5-1 following a 39-17 victory over El Toro in National Junior Basketball action Saturday at Thurston Middle School in Laguna Beach. Isabel Mansour and Taylor Glenn led the Laguna defense, which had to contend with a taller El Toro team. Sophia Lucas led the offense with 14 points and Molly Cohn, Quinn Winter and Mia Pitz all scored four points. Laguna travels to Aliso Niguel High on Saturday to take on Aliso Niguel at 8 a.m. * Girls' Division 1 Laguna Beach suffered its first loss of the season in a 23-21 setback to Capo Dana.

Laguna Beach's boys' eighth-grade All-Net National Junior Basketball team returned from its holiday hiatus to hand previously unbeaten Villa Park its first loss of the season, 36-33. The victory kept Laguna's regular season record spotless heading into Sunday's game against Laguna Hills. Tipoff is 6:30 p.m. at Laguna Beach High. Laguna gained control early against Villa Park, staking its way to a 22-13 lead in the second quarter. Villa Park managed a late rally in the quarter and pulled to 26-21 at the half.

The Laguna Pink 10-and-Under girls' soccer team out of AYSO Region 86 remained unbeaten on the season by winning two matches last weekend. Laguna first defeated Mission Viejo, 4-1, then came back to beat the Laguna Niguel Blue Strikers, 2-0. Laguna's defense shined in the shutout of Laguna Niguel. Summer Dvorak, Johana Abarca, Nina Bo and Brooke Borges rotated in goal for the shutout. Tough midfield play by Audrey Pillsbury, Makenzie Fischer and Jamie Duncan kept the Blue Strikers from getting much past midfield.

Two Laguna Beach teams were in action against each other in National Junior Basketball boys? Division 3 action over the weekend. Team 1, coached by Ali Rounaghi, prevailed against Team 2, coached by Mike Levine and Gerard Stripling, 45-27. Throughout the game, Team 1 used its athleticism to push the ball for fast break scores. Remy Mackel and Owen McMurray paced Team 1 with 12 points each. Charlie Rounaghi contributed eight points and tallied a number of assists and steals. For Team 2, Grady Morgan led in scoring with 15 points and Nicholas Lucas chipped in with seven, hitting five-for-five from the free-throw line.
