The season came to an end for the Laguna Beach Little League 11-year-old All-Star team, which fell to Laguna Niguel, 14-1, in an elimination game in the District 55 All-Star tournament at Wagon Wheel Sports Park in Trabuco Canyon. The Laguna Pink, a girls' AYSO Region 86 10-and-under soccer team, got their season off to a good start, winning its opener against Rancho Santa Margarita before battling Laguna Niguel to a scoreless tie. Laguna 5, Rancho Santa Margarita 0 Laguna opened its season Saturday on the road and scored an impressive victory over Rancho Santa Margarita. Goalies Nina Bo, Summer Dvorak, Brooke Borges, and Peighton McRobie rotated in the net to combine on the shutout. The dribbling and passing of forwards Audrey Pillsbury, Francie Holte and Makenzie Fischer continually was able to penetrate the Rancho Santa Margarita defense.

Teenager arrested after car accident Laguna Beach police arrested a Laguna Niguel teenager at 3:38 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of car theft, hit-and-run and driving under the influence. The suspect, a 14-year-old boy, was caught in a 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup truck on Cleo Street near the ocean. Police said the truck was stolen in Laguna Niguel and that they found an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. A 15-year-old girl, also from Laguna Niguel, was in the truck with the suspect.

Police chase ends with an arrest A man suspected of driving a stolen car led Laguna Beach police on a high-speed chase that ended with a crash and his arrest on Saturday. Simone Paul Khein, 28, of Laguna Niguel was pulled over on suspicion of a traffic violation near the intersection of Forest Avenue and South Coast Highway at about 12:20 p.m. Saturday, police said. The officer ran Khein's license plate number after making the stop, and as he walked toward the car, a dispatcher notified the officer that the 1995 Volkswagen Jetta had been reported stolen.

Mike Sciacca The Laguna Beach Little League's 11-year-old All-Star team ventured into the District 55 All-Star Tournament at Wagon Wheel Park in El Toro Saturday with high hopes. Those hopes were dashed early by San Clemente, which posted a 10-0 victory in a first-round game. San Clemente played an error-free game on defense and its offense took advantage of several Laguna Beach defensive mistakes to advance to the Winner's Bracket. Mike Townsend broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the second inning with a towering, grand slam home run, which ignited San Clemente's offense.

Barbara Diamond Two Generations was one too many for Vicky Chambers. Chambers opened a second store in Laguna Niguel last year when she thought her lease on the Forest Avenue store would not be renewed due to expansion planned for Hobie Sports. When Susie McCalla closed the pharmacy located between Generations and Hobie's that her family had owned for more than 50 year, Chambers was able to stay. That was the good news. The bad news was trying to operate two stores.

Mike Sciacca The outcome of its games might not have swung in their favor, but that didn't prevent the Laguna Beach Little League 11-year-old All-Star team from enjoying its experience in the District 55 All-Star Tournament. Laguna lost its first two tournament outings at Wagon Wheel Sports Park in Trabuco Canyon, falling to San Clemente, 10-1, and Laguna Niguel, 14-1, in the double-elimination event. "I have to compliment the Laguna Niguel squad," Laguna Beach Manager Cary Hyden said.
