-- Mary A. Castillo Lori Fischer of Mission Viejo has been charged with nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon and nine count of child endangerment after she allegedly planted razor blades, nails and other sharp objects in 10 local play lots, including Main Beach in Laguna. Fischer did not plead at her arraignment, said Karen Schatzele, deputy district attorney. The arraignment was continued to June 21. The first reported incident of razor blades occurred at Main Beach on April 27. Fischer, 21, allegedly contacted the Laguna Beach Police Department before the razors were found, warning that her friends were headed to Main Beach to "hurt people."

Laguna Beach AYSO soccer went into the holiday break on a high after both its boys? and girls? Under-12 teams earned Region 86 Area 11-L championships. Both teams turned in title-winning performances at Chapparosa park in Laguna Niguel Dec. 19. After the girls? team sewed up their area crown, the boys? U-12 team followed suit by defeating Mission Viejo, 3-1, in the division final. Coach Peter Davidson?s squad, referred to as, the ?Sticks,? fell behind early in the final as Mission Viejo slipped a goal past the Sticks?

The City of Laguna Beach Senior Center and Community Art Project conducted judging for the eighth annual Senior Art Competition on Jan. 13 at Wells Fargo Bank. Judges for the competition were Arts Commissioner Mike Tauber and Pat Sparkuhl of the Community Art Project. The exhibit will be on display on the second floor of Wells Fargo Bank, 260 Ocean Ave., until Monday, March 13. The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel is no Grinch. The hotel will be collecting canned food, toys, books and stuffed animals to donate to local charities throughout the holiday season, according to a news release. Guests who donate will receive a card that gives them 15% off in the hotel's restaurants and shops, plus a free day of valet parking. The resort will collect canned goods and non-perishable food items at the Thanks-for-Giving Buffet on Nov. 24 and the Christmas Day Buffet on Dec. 25. All items will be donated to the Orange County Rescue Mission.

The Beach Pit BBQ location in Ocean Ranch may not be replaced with a Nekter Juice Bar, according to Beach Pit BBQ owner Tim DeCinces. He said Shea Properties did not "accept assignment" of Beach Pit BBQ's lease to Nekter. DeCinces is friends with the owners of Nekter. FOR THE RECORD: [This clarifies the action Shea Properties took in regards to Nekter coming to Ocean Ranch.] Update: However, Steve Schulze of Nekter said in an email Friday that Nekter is "definitely coming to Laguna Niguel.

The postseason run for the Laguna Beach Little League 9/10 All-Star team came to an end Tuesday at La Paz Park. Laguna Beach was eliminated from title contention at the District 55 All-Star Tournament by Newport Beach-American, which scored a 14-1 victory. Laguna Beach suffered consecutive losses after opening up the double-elimination tournament with an impressive victory. Laguna Beach began the tournament with a resounding 10-1 victory over South Irvine-American.

Hobby Lobby coming to Laguna Niguel Arts and crafts retailer Hobby Lobby is moving into Laguna Niguel. The chain's new location will be on Alicia Parkway between Pacific Park Drive and Avila Road in the Marketplace at Laguna Niguel shopping center, according to a news release from the store. The 77,800-square-foot space used to be home to Mervyn's. This location marks the eighth store in California for Hobby Lobby, which is based in Oklahoma City. It is expected to bring about 35 to 40 jobs to Laguna Niguel.

The Laguna Beach Little League 9/10 All-Star team was eliminated Wednesday from the District 55 All-Star Tournament by Rancho Mission Viejo, which posted a 5-3 victory at Heroes Park in El Toro. Laguna had opened the tournament Saturday against defending champion Aliso Niguel. Aliso Niguel showed that it doesn't intend to give up its district crown, as it rolled to a 12-0 victory, which sent Laguna into the "Second Chance" half of the bracket. The double elimination tournament runs through July 14. Laguna Beach's 9/10 All-Star team was composed of Grifan Fair, Blake Hester, Austin Hilleman, Alex Iannotti, Cole Kessler, Brandon Lewis, Robbie McInerny, Austin Paxson, Santi Pierini, Norton Penney, Jack Pillsbury, Derek Reigel, Larry Stewart and Brian Vail.

The final stretch of the 2012 Little League Baseball season starts this weekend for four Laguna Beach teams in the District 55 All-Star tournament. The Majors and 10/11 teams start tourney play Saturday. The 9/10 team plays its first game Sunday and the Junior team is in action Monday. The double-elimination event runs through next week, culminating in championship finals in each division. There are no tournament games Wednesday because of the Fourth of July holiday. * Majors Division Opener: 4 p.m. Saturday, vs. Laguna Niguel (Chapparosa Park, Laguna Niguel)
