Sin City will descend on Laguna Beach next month when Laguna Art Museum debuts its new show, “Las Vegas Diaspora: The Emergence of Contemporary Art from the Neon Homeland,” on March 9. The exhibit premiered at the Las Vegas Museum of Art, where it was attended by Laguna Art Museum Director Bolton Colburn. “It’s a spectacular show,” he said. “We saw some advance information prior to the opening, and we thought it would be a nice fit for Laguna Art Museum.

Master figurative sculptor Richard MacDonald, who owns the Dawson Cole Fine Art in Laguna Beach, has created a new exclusive, permanent gallery capturing images of Cirque du Soleil performers in the ?O? Theatre lobby at Bellagio in Las Vegas. Cirque du Soleil is showcasing more than 50 bronze sculptures along with original drawings, serigraphs and lithographs. The new gallery was born out of a relationship between Macdonald and Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque du Soleil. MacDonald said he and Laliberté are ?

CANARY ISLANDS The waves have been unbelievable, to say the least. Surfing a perfect breaking right wave, over a shallow jagged sharp reef, was the highlight of my day today and reminded me of just how special surfing is to the traveling surfer. Today's waves were about 6 to 8 feet, with some not very friendly locals who took a while to warm up to me. Nothing like good old fashioned localism in the form of scowling faces. I'm staying out of the main tourist sector of Tenerife, which is wonderful since the downtown tourist area is about as ugly a place as one can imagine ?

Laguna Beach's Dain Blanton teamed with Jeff Nygaard of Los Angeles last weekend to win the men's title at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Aquafina Shootout presented by Bud Light in Las Vegas. Blanton and Nygaard, seeded seventh, defeated No. 5 seed Scott Ayakatubby and Brian Lewis, 21-13, 21-19 in Saturday's final, which was the final men's match of the 2003 AVP Nissan Series. Blanton finished the men's championship match final with nine kills, seven digs and four aces.
