The Laguna Beach High School’s Park Avenue Players have finally brought their most highly requested production, “Fiddler on the Roof,” to the Artists’ Theatre stage. The 1964 Broadway musical, which takes place in pre-World War II Russia and tells the journey of a Jewish milkman named Tevye and his five unwed daughters, premiered Thursday and will run through March 29. Mark Dressler, director of performing arts at the high school, said he is ecstatic about the level of talent in the upcoming show.

With spring upon us, their presence is a calming influence, which insulates us from the pressure of attempting to become thinner, tanner and richer prior to summer. However, not every furry friend has a home nor does every home have a furry friend, which is quite the shame.

Gina Kantzavedian may have degrees in engineering and computer science, but she "hasn't been happier" since leaving her Willard Marine job as a naval architect to pursue her life's love of caring for animals. But the Laguna Beach businesswoman, owner of Animal Crackers, a pet supplies and grooming facility, has allegedly run afoul of laws governing animals and adoptions, according to Animal Services officials. Kantzavedian has been investigated for allegedly selling animals without a license, has been cited for possessing a ferret, and is suspected by authorities of violating laws governing animal adoptions.

A matchmaker meets her biggest challenge in "Hello, Dolly!," the latest production taken on by Laguna Beach High School's Park Avenue Players that opens this weekend. The play, which takes place at the turn of the century in New York, first debuted in 1964 on Broadway and has had the likes of Carol Channing and Barbara Streisand play the lead. This time around, senior Haley Castuera is in the lead role of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a widow who matches lonely singles with their "perfect partners.

Laguna Beach's Day Labor Center has been under fire from anti-illegal immigration groups for more than a year, but one local official who has targeted illegal immigration as his top priority supports the center. State Sen. Tom Harman believes the Laguna Beach Day Labor Center should continue in operation — but should not serve illegal immigrants. Harman is on common ground with David Peck of the Crosscultural Council, the nonprofit group which operates the Laguna Beach Day Labor Center.
