Historical Society to highlight FOA's 80th anniversary To mark Heritage Month and the 80th anniversary of the Festival of Arts, the Laguna Beach Historical Society on Tuesday night will put on a panel discussion and multimedia presentation at City Hall with festival leaders. According to a news release from the festival, the presentation will feature the screening of a 1950s-era video promoting the annual summer festival and milestones in the history of the Laguna art institution.

An Indiana man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of a residential burglary at a Laguna Beach home. Kyle Alan Veach, 22, was arrested by Laguna Beach police after he went to the Costa Mesa Police Department to retrieve property from an earlier arrest, according to a news release from LBPD. Veach is suspected of entering a home in the 800 block of Hillcrest Drive around noon March 8. The resident had been out running errands when he came home to find the suspect leaving his home.

A 35-pound bobcat that is suspected of killing three or four cats in the Three Arch Bay area is still on the loose, according to a news release issued by the Laguna Beach Police Department. Animal Services officers responded to the area of #6 Vista Del Sol at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday after a report of another domestic cat being grabbed by the bobcat. They arrived to find the bobcat hiding underneath a car parked in the driveway, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. The bobcat, which showed no fear of humans, got away before it could be tranquilized, he said.

Local to be honored with Seniors Legacy Award The Laguna Beach Seniors Legacy Award for 2013 will be presented to local Sande St. John at its Legacy Ball on March 22. The award honors a person who has made a "a lasting contribution to the quality of life in Laguna Beach," according to a news release. "Sande has personally touched more lives in Laguna Beach than anyone I know," Laguna Beach Seniors President Emeritus Chris Quilter said in a statement. St. John has worked throughout the community helping seniors, children, local businesses and the homeless, and has been involved in several causes including Laguna Club for Kids, Human Options, the Laguna Beach Community Clinic, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, plus many more.

Volunteers clean up local beaches Teens and staff from the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach teamed with local James Pribram, Hearts of Montage, Zero Trash and One World One Ocean to clean up local beaches Sept. 15 as part the California Coastal Cleanup day, according to a news release. About 70 volunteers participated. They started at the Montage Laguna Beach resort and spread out to surrounding beaches. Teens recorded items that were cleaned up and mostly recyclable, which they will send in to the Ocean Conservancy to become part of the Ocean Trash Index, which shows how much trash is found along coasts all over the world, the release said.

An anti-bullying rally will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 in Laguna Beach. The first People's March Against Bullying will start at Main Beach with participants marching to City Hall, where speakers will talk about the issue. Speakers are set to include Jonah Mowry, the 15-year-old who revealed his personal case of bullying on YouTube, and Victoria Mendez, a 15-year-old girl who is president of Cool 2 Be Kind, a student-run, anti-bullying club, according to a news release.
